(English Abstract)
A system that enables eye motion recognize and communicate with disables suffering from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is introduced. This system is implemented on system-onchip (SOC) in DE1-SOC board consisting of field programmable gate array (FPGA) and dual-core ARM Cortex-A9 processor, etc. Linux operating system (OS) on dual-core ARM Cortex-A9 processor is installed and then OpenCV is used for detecting face and eye, using the images receiving from the webcam. After the detected eye is converted into a grayscale image, it is sent to FPGA block. Using FPGA, the center of the black object is extracted, and its position is setected. Using the previously determined text selection rule shown in a computer screen, the character according to the user intention is selected. This system can use relatively low development cost and updateable FPGA, and can output text easily to mobile phone by using Bluetooth.
